From One to One Hundred and Fifty-Five

Azure Miles Records from Trembling Flowers to A Parrot Sipping Tea

Michael Robinson in San Francisco the year Azure Miles Records began in 1991.

One of my composition teachers, Bulent Arel, an electronic music pioneer from Turkey, once told us when looking back life is as short as a nose hair, while looking forward it appears endless.

Now, in the summer of 2021, looking back thirty years to when I released my first album, Trembling Flowers in July 1991, it does seem like I did so just a few months ago.

At the time I formed Azure Miles Records, my mentor, Leonard Altman, suggested adding The Music of Michael Robinson for absolute clarity, and that has proved to be sound advice.

My new album, A Parrot Sipping Tea, released in late July 2021, shares defining characteristics of Trembling Flowers in terms of color, expression, melody, form, and rhythm, while embodying degrees of musical evolution.

One hundred and forty-eight of the albums on Azure Miles Records are for Meruvina, and seven contain piano improvisations.

The one hundred and fifty-five albums average over five albums a year for thirty years. If I weren't so lazy and undisciplined the number would be considerably higher.
