Raga and Soul

Hearing this recording was the first time I was exposed to the lyrics of I'm Getting Sentimental Over You, expanding the import of the song beyond measure. This is a key gift singers lend to instrumentalists, illuminating music from another adjoining dimension, tapping into augmented expressive power. Relatedly, Indian ragas were also embodied as paintings known as ragamalas. I once had opportunity to hold several of these ancient manifestations in my hands at a collector's home, and the rainbow of pigments even though hundreds of years old were palpable, similar to the time-immune renderings of Ella Fitzgerald.
