Singers and Colors

Hawaiian coast

The magic pairing of blue and green in Hawaii above.

Blue and Green is one of the perfect tracks on Kind of Blue. First time hearing it, I played along endlessly until angelically startled by the rising sun.

Lee Konitz told me how when Miles Davis died he thought of all the beauty his friend and colleague had gifted the world.

Cannonball Adderley

No one in jazz cooked quite like Cannonball Adderley. His playing on Kind of Blue and Cannonball & Coltrane remains untouchable. His alto saxophone was drenched with passion and guided by intellectual lightning on those tracks sounding just as awesome today as in the fifties.
